Who We Are

Bob Ortbals and Katie Rhoten founded Gateway Employment Law, LLC to help protect the rights of employees who’ve been mistreated by their employers. Before doing so, they worked together for years at a national employment law firm representing employers. As a result, they gained significant insight into how employers approach employees’ claims.

We are passionate about employment law and our clients. Integrity and perseverance are the foundation of our practice. We understand that suffering discrimination, harassment, or other mistreatment at work can be a horrible experience. As such, we believe every client must be treated with dignity and respect. Each client has a unique story that leads them to us. And we take the time to hear and understand what each client is going through.

After hearing each client’s needs, our extensive employment law experience helps us find the right legal path forward.

What We Do

We represent employees in Missouri and Illinois who’ve been discriminated against or harassed at work, wrongfully fired, not paid for all of their work, retaliated against for raising concerns about their employer’s misconduct, or otherwise mistreated at work. We’ve handled matters covering nearly every type of employment issue imaginable. This includes discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage-and-hour, family and medical leave, whistleblowing, and noncompete agreements.

Why Us?

Bob and Katie have litigated employment cases across the country for some of the largest employers in the U.S. This experience is invaluable to helping you with your employment situation. We understand how employers think and act; the tactics they use. And we aren’t intimidated by the fact that they may be big companies because we know how companies operate.

More importantly, because of our experience we understand that our clients are most important. We’re small by design. Bob and Katie will be working directly with you each step of the way.
